Check out these uplifting photos from the a huge indigenous meeting that took place earlier this month in Brazil. Attacks on indigenous people have skyrocketed since Bolsonaro’s election – their fight is our fight. (28/01/20)
450 leaders of different generations, warriors and representatives of 47 Brazilian indigenous peoples will meet between January 14th and 17th, in the village of Piaraçu, on the banks of the Xingu River, in Mato Grosso. (12/1/20)
Chief Raoni, 89, an internationally recognised leader, nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in defending the forest and indigenous cultural values, will preside over the event.
The discussion will be around the lease of indigenous lands, mega-enterprises that threaten their land, the dismantling of indigenous policies, genocide (and who is behind the attacks), the role of youth, women and the indigenous movement at the present time .
We at Mídia NINJA, in the commitment to tell this story, side by side with the indigenous peoples, will be covering the Meeting of the Mebengokrê Peoples. Follow Midaninja here.
