The meeting will also mark a year since the jailing of President Lula, the favourite to win Brazil’s election, until his jailing by a judge who has since become Bolsonaro’s Minister of Justice. International calls for Lula’s release are growing ever louder.
In the month of International Women’s Day, we will also be commemorating Marielle Franco on the first anniversary of her brutal assassination. Franco was not only one of the most progressive Brazilian politicians but an advocate for the rights of Afro-Brazilians, LGBT people, women and low-income communities.
Organised by the Brazil Solidarity Initiative.
