Brazil Solidarity Initiative Launched – A Message from Richard Burgon MP

At this crucial time for Brazil, I’m writing to urge you to support the new Brazil Solidarity Initiative launched by No Coup in Brazil.

With Presidential elections taking place this Sunday, progressives and the labour movement across the world have been alarmed at the rise of Brazil’s far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro. We are launching the Brazil Solidarity Initiative to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity with the millions of Brazilians fighting for democracy, human rights and social progress.

You can help by:

  • Chipping in £10 or what you can afford here – we‘re looking for 100 people to give a one-off donation to raise at least £1000 to immediately expand our work.
  • Attending our event on Brazil after the elections in the House of Commons on November 20 – register here and more details will follow.
  • Making a regular contribution of £5 a month here by becoming a friend of the initiative – this will enable us to plan further campaigning ahead.
  • Following us on Facebook here and Twitter here and spreading the word.
  • Giving £50 here to become one of our 50 founding supporters. Your generous support will give us a vital £2500  start-up fund to take the campaign forward – you will be thanked on our website and receive a special gift.

As No Coup in Brazil with your support we have organised five open letters signed by a range of public figures from across British society, well-attended national events and provided regular news and analysis about the worrying attack on Brazil’s democracy, the targeting of progressive leaders including former President Lula, and the killing of human rights leader Marielle Franco.

There are growing concerns that, whatever happens in the election on Sunday, an emboldened far-right will see a further attack on Brazilian’s basic rights. Your support will be crucial to help us speak out in solidarity with the millions of people there resisting this and determined to build for a better future, not only for Brazil but for the whole of Latin America.

Please give us your support today by:

In solidarity,

Richard Burgon MP on behalf of the Brazil Solidarity Initiative
